With Residential Solarize, the organization sets an ambitious goal to help 3,000 Westchester residents go solar this year

With electricity rates rising steeply, there has never been a better time to install solar and take advantage of the available incentives. Sustainable Westchester, which delivers climate solutions to the governments, businesses, organizations, and people of Westchester County, is delighted to announce the launch of Residential Solarize
2025, a campaign to streamline the process of going solar for homeowners.

“Many Westchester residents want to switch to solar but do not know where to start. With Residential Solarize, we’re working with local municipal leaders and best-in-class installer partners to help residents streamline the process of adopting this important energy solution,” said Leo Wiegman, Sustainable Westchester’s Solar Director. “Westchester County has an opportunity to demonstrate real leadership in pursuit of New York’s ambitious clean energy goals, while delivering financial savings to homeowners at a time of rapidly rising electricity demand and costs.”

Through Residential Solarize, Sustainable Westchester has set a goal of helping 3,000 homeowners go solar in 2025 (a 50 percent increase over 2024) and increasing residential solar across the County by 300 percent by 2030.

Westchester homeowners interested in the program start by registering with their contact information on Sustainable Westchester’s Residential Solarize webpage. The Sustainable Westchester team will prepare a preliminary assessment of the homes’ solar potential and review it with the homeowner. Those interested in receiving proposals and funding options from pre-qualified installers will be referred to the campaign’s official Installer Partners. There is no cost to either homeowners or municipalities for participating in this campaign.

Sustainable Westchester’s Solar Team conducted a thorough evaluation of all firms operating in the County’s residential solar market. This vetting process considered each company’s quality of workmanship and materials, experience with local permitting and jurisdictions, pricing competitiveness, and other key qualifications. The team also assessed each firm’s ability to offer financing options to homeowners. As a result, four companies have been selected as Installer Partners for the Residential Solarize 2025 campaign: Green Hybrid Energy Solutions, Infinity Energy, New York State Solar Farm, and SunBlue Energy.

Sustainable Westchester is partnering with municipalities across the County to promote the Residential Solarize 2025 campaign and support the adoption of permitting best practices, helping to streamline the approval process for residents. So far, many local governments have shown strong interest in participating, including the Towns of Bedford, Mamaroneck, and North Salem, as well as the Villages of Ardsley, Hastings-on-Hudson, Pleasantville, and Tarrytown.

Supervisor Warren Lucas, Town of North Salem, said, “The Town of North Salem and the Climate Smart Committee are excited to partner with Sustainable Westchester on the Residential Solarize Campaign. The campaign aligns with our mission to educate residents about the benefits of solar and the importance of reducing reliance on an already strained electric grid.”

Supervisor Ellen Calves, Town of Bedford, said, “Bedford is thrilled to join Sustainable Westchester’s rooftop residential Solarize program to not only help our residents lower their energy bills and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, but also to help create a cleaner and healthier community now and for future generations.”

“As Town Supervisor of the Town of Mamaroneck, I am proud to support the Sustainable Westchester Solarize Program. This initiative not only helps to reduce our carbon footprint but also empowers residents to make affordable, sustainable energy choices,” said Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney. “By embracing solar energy, we are taking a significant step toward a cleaner, greener future. Thank you, Sustainable Westchester, for providing this impactful program, including the opportunity for a free consultation.”

Mayor Niki Armacost from the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson said, “We are grateful to Sustainable Westchester for launching the residential solarize 2.0 community campaign - with an erratic energy market and unpredictable price surges, now is an excellent time for residents to invest in rooftop solar. Vetted and reliable solar providers will provide peace of mind for consumers. The Solarize program will increase homeowners' energy independence and reduce emissions - all great things for the planet!"

Sophia N. Johnson, Chairperson, Village of Ardsley Green Task Force, said, “We support Sustainable Westchester's Residential Solarize program, and initiatives like it, to advance Ardsley's commitment to New York State’s clean energy goals. These programs reflect our values - accessibility, equity, and sustainability - and mark a critical step in moving our village toward a fossil-free future.”
