Suffern Free Library Launches Program Providing Free AI Smart Glasses to Visually Impaired Veterans

Innovative initiative combines artificial intelligence and hands-on training to help veterans navigate everyday life with greater independence

Suffern Free Library is helping visually impaired veterans embrace new technology and greater independence through a program that provides qualifying veterans with free AI-powered Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 Smart Glasses. The initiative equips participants with wearable technology to assist with everyday tasks and offers personalized training to ensure they can use the device confidently.

The AI smart glasses are designed to make daily life more accessible by reading text, books, and signs aloud, describing surroundings, providing hands-free navigation, and allowing users to capture photos, record videos and play music through simple voice commands.

To participate, veterans must have low vision, own a smartphone, and attend one training workshop hosted by the library. Multiple workshop dates are being offered throughout September and October to accommodate participants.

Training workshops are scheduled for:

• September 22 at 4:30 p.m. (with Senator Weber)
• September 30 at 1:30 p.m. (with Senator Weber)
• October 27 at 4 p.m.
• October 28 at 11 a.m.

The workshops will guide participants through setting up and using the smart glasses, ensuring they are comfortable with the technology before incorporating it into their daily routines.
