Over 5,000 rubber ducks will once again race for charity at the Second Annual Rockland Rubber Duck Race on Sunday August 18th, Germonds Pool West Nyack. The festivities begin at 9:30AM and proceeds from this fundraiser will be distributed to four Rockland County Nonprofits: Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, Jawonio, Meals on Wheels Rockland and The Rockland Community Foundation.
This fun and budget-accessible event is the brainchild of Rockland Community Foundation charitable fundholder Amy Stern. Ms. Stern and her husband Gary established a charitable fund several years ago at the Foundation to streamline and amplify their charitable giving. “Many of the fundraisers in Rockland County are not financially accessible to everyday community members. I wanted to create a fun and unique event that would engage the community and was very budget friendly” she stated.
Ms. Stern has a goal of racing over 5,000 rubber ducks at this year’s event. Duck “adoptions” start at $10 per duck. Cash prizes of $1,000, $750 and $500 will be awarded to those ducks that cross the finish line first. Winners, need not be present to win. The West Nyack Fire department will again be at the event, providing fire truck hose currents to move the ducks towards the finish line.
Ducks can be adopted as follows:
- Three ducks for $25
- Six ducks (Quack Pack) for $50
- Thirteen ducks (Happy Duxen) for $100.
- Million Dollar Duck $3,000 EXCLUSIVE
- Mighty Duck Sponsor $2,000
- Feathered Friend Sponsor $1,500
- Top Duck Sponsor $1,000
- Lucky Duck Sponsor $500
This year, the event will also feature a Million Dollar Duck! If the winning duck crosses the finish line and matches the number in the pre-sealed Million Dollar Duck envelope, the winner will receive $1,000,000.
In addition, there are several sponsorship opportunities that include various value-added benefits:

About the Rockland Community Foundation: The Rockland Community Foundation is working to improve the quality of life in our region by increasing charitable giving. Its mission is to connect people and businesses with the causes that matter most to them through the creation of funds, across a wide range of interests, that donors create and the Foundation stewards. Community foundations put philanthropy within reach, offering the ability to establish funds that will continue to give for years to come, with tax benefits that donors can take advantage of now. Most importantly, the funds stay in the community, which means donors will see the impact of their contributions in the place they call home.
