Rockland Community College Celebrates Italian Heritage Month

Rockland Community College (RCC) is celebrating Italian Heritage Month with several fun events in October. Hosted by the RCC Italian Heritage Committee, the events aim to foster an appreciation for Italian and Italian-American culture, history, and contributions, enriching the RCC community with a rich tapestry of lectures, films, and presentations.

In a touching tribute, this year's Italian Heritage Month events will be dedicated to the late Professor Josephine Tarsia, a cherished colleague, linguist, mentor, and friend to many. Tarsia, a former chair of both the Italian Heritage and Hispanic Heritage Committees, devoted many years imparting knowledge in the Foreign Language department at RCC.

"Embracing and celebrating the cultural tapestry that binds us is at the core of Rockland Community College's ethos. This Italian Heritage Month, we not only honor the indelible mark of Italian culture on global history but also pay tribute to Professor Josephine Tarsia, a beacon of knowledge and passion. Her legacy, much like the Italian heritage we're celebrating, leaves an everlasting imprint on our community. Join us this month in a journey of appreciation, reflection, and celebration,” stated Dr. Lester Rápalo, President of Rockland Community College.

Students and area residents are invited to partake in the series of presentations and reflect on Italy’s enduring legacy, its invaluable contributions globally, and the historical moments that significantly influenced its society.
