Eastdale Village Brings a Taste of Italy to the Hudson Valley with First Annual Ferragosto Celebration

On Saturday, September 26, Eastdale Village Town Center will bring Italian community traditions to life in its own Palladino Piazza during a free full-day Ferragosto Celebration. From 11 am to 8 pm, Eastdale will transform its Italian-inspired Piazza into a lively festival filled with the sights and sounds of Italy, featuring authentic Italian food, live music, wine and beverage tastings, local artisans, family activities and special events celebrating Italian culture and traditions.

“Palladino Piazza was designed to be a gathering place, somewhere people can come together; that’s what makes Ferragosto a natural fit for Eastdale,” said John Hettinger, president of Kirchhoff, the real estate investment firm behind Eastdale Village. “We created this community to bring people from across the Hudson Valley together, and Ferragosto is a wonderful example of that vision coming to life — gathering around great food, sharing in traditions and celebrating together.”

Highlights of the day will include a live mozzarella-making demonstration and putting local chefs to the test with the Better Than Nonna’s Sauce Competition, with entries to be judged by Italian Comedian Candice Guardino; Culinary Institute of America Professor Antonella Piemontese; Chef Angelo Balbo, chef and owner of Hurricane Grill & Wings in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Luca Pizza in Newburgh; and Chef Stacey Hawkins, chef, entrepreneur, television host.

Additionally, the Ferragosto Market and local artisans and vendors will offer goods for attendees to shop. Throughout the day, Eastdale’s popular restaurants and shops will offer Italian food specials, sweet treats and beverages. Ferragosto is currently accepting entries for the traditional red sauce-making competition as well as sponsors and vendors.

Completed and dedicated earlier this year, Eastdale’s open-air Piazza was inspired by the timeless character of European public squares and designed to be a social heart of the community. The space was named in honor of Giovanni Palladino, Eastdale’s director of architecture and design, whose vision and leadership helped bring the gathering space and the live-work-play community to life.
