Keep Rockland Beautiful Invites Community to Protect Local Waterways During Fall Cleanup Campaign

Keep Rockland Beautiful (KRB) invites residents, families, students, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups to participate in its annual Clean Sweep for Clean Streams
cleanup campaign, running from mid-September through mid-November.

Throughout the campaign, volunteers will join cleanup events across Rockland County to remove litter from neighborhoods, parks, roadways, streams, and other areas that affect local waterways. Every piece of litter collected helps make Rockland a cleaner, healthier, safer, and more beautiful place to live.

This fall, KRB is placing a special focus on waterways and surrounding areas to help:

• Prevent litter and debris from contributing to flooding
• Protect wildlife and natural habitats
• Improve water quality in local streams and rivers
• Stop pollution before it reaches the Hudson River and other water sources
• Register for an upcoming community cleanup
• Organize a cleanup with family, friends, coworkers, students, or neighbors
• Participate in KRB programs such as Adopt-A-Road or the Clean Communities Partnership
• Become a campaign sponsor and support environmental education and community stewardship throughout Rockland County

Because many storm drains in Rockland County flow directly into local waterways, litter left on streets and sidewalks can quickly enter streams and rivers. Removing it before that happens creates an immediate and lasting environmental impact.

“Clean Sweep for Clean Streams is more than a cleanup, it is a communitywide effort to protect Rockland’s environment and create a healthier future for generations to come,” said Marisa Marrone, Executive Director of Keep Rockland Beautiful. “Whether you volunteer for an existing event or organize a cleanup in your own neighborhood, every action makes a meaningful difference.”

Expanding Opportunities for Community Engagement

In addition to the fall campaign, KRB continues to expand programs that make environmental education and volunteer service more accessible throughout the county:

Eco-Ambassador Program — Engages middle and high school students in environmental leadership, education, volunteer, gain service hours and scholarship opportunities.

Clean Communities Partnership Program — Provides participating libraries and community centers with cleanup supplies and resources, making it easier for residents to get supplies to complete independent cleanups in their neighborhoods throughout the year.

Sustainable Living Hub — Offers free resources and practical guidance on sustainability, conservation, and environmentally responsible living in Rockland County.

Environmental Education Resources — Provides downloadable, interactive lessons for educators, homeschool families, students, and community members.
