In the wake of what is happening in California, it’s time for an honest conversation. I usually keep things upbeat, but we can’t ignore what’s happening around us. The Los Angeles wildfires aren’t just another news story—they’re a wake-up call, a vivid reminder of the climate crisis we’re facing.
Just two weeks ago, we learned that 2024 was the hottest year on record. Temperatures have risen to 1.55°C above pre-industrial levels, surpassing the 1.5°C warming limit we’ve worked so hard to avoid. And it’s happening faster than anyone expected. It’s unsettling, even frightening.
I understand how overwhelming it feels to face challenges this big. It’s easy to think, “What can I possibly do?” But that’s the thing—we’re not powerless. We have more influence than we think, and it starts with the choices we make in our own homes.
Two weeks ago, I launched the My Mindful Kitchen (MMK) Method. Which is not focused on cooking—it’s about respecting food and making thoughtful choices that benefit our physical and emotional health, and yes, the health of the planet. The MMK Method is about tackling climate change head-on, giving families a practical way to make a real difference. It’s about focusing on what we can do, not what we can’t.
But the MMK Method is more than just a framework for action—it’s an opportunity to spark meaningful conversations at home. It’s a chance to teach our kids about values like kindness, gratitude, and respect for food, people, and the planet. These conversations help them feel less powerless, too. Our children are watching us, and they need to see that we’re taking steps—steps they can take as well—to protect their future.
We can’t afford to sit back and wait. Each of us has the power to make a difference, starting right now, in our own kitchens. Let’s begin with prevention, and let’s do it together. Because when it comes to climate change, every mindful step counts.
Remember: we’re not helpless. We’re powerful. And together, we can create real change—one meal, one conversation, one mindful choice at a time.
To everyone impacted by the fires, please know that our hearts are with you. We wish you safety, strength, and resilience in the days ahead.
