Five-Time Tony Award Nominee "Rock of Ages" Will Debut at the Cultural Arts Theatre at Rockland Community College
The popular Broadway musical "Rock of Ages" will be performed by Rockland Community College (RCC) students from the Visual and Performing Arts Department and Campus Players club. The performance will take place in the Cultural Arts Theatre at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY April 25th through 27th at 8:00 pm (doors open at 7:30 pm). Rock of Ages, performed on Broadway from 2009 through 2015, is a jukebox musical built around classic rock songs from the 1980s, especially from the famous glam metal bands of that decade. The musical, which received five Tony nominations including Best Musical, features songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison and Europe, among other well-known rock bands.
"Rockland Community College is ecstatic to host the 'Rock of Ages' musical right here on our campus. It's more than just a performance; it’s a heartfelt nod to the classic rock era that continues to resonate through the ages," said Dr. Lester Sandres Rápalo, President of Rockland Community College. "Our students' talent and passion will bring this dynamic era to life, promising a show that's both a nostalgic ride and a testament to the enduring power of rock music."
The musical unfolds around the tale of aspiring rock star Drew and small-town girl Sherrie as they navigate the chaos of the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, fighting to save it from the clutches of German developers who are intent on transforming it into a soulless commercial hub. Rock of Ages is a high-energy extravaganza that will have audience members singing and dancing in their seats.
"We are thrilled to bring the electrifying spirit of 'Rock of Ages' to Rockland Community College. This show isn't just a musical; it's a celebration of classic rock that defined a generation,” stated Christopher Plummer, Director of Cultural Arts Center Theater for RCC.
“Our talented students from the Visual and Performing Arts Department and the Campus Players are ready to transport audiences back to the 1980s, immersing them in the hits they know and will sing along to. 'Rock of Ages' is more than entertainment—it's a journey through a pivotal time in music history, and we're honored to share this experience with our community.”
