Nova North Commercial, a new commercial real estate firm based in New City, is announcing its launch with a name, slogan, logo and brand identity developed by marketing students at Rockland Community College.

“I immediately put the work that I did on market research and developing a name on my resume,” said Jolie Santiago, an RCC Liberal Arts and Humanities major who worked on the project. “This project gave me an opportunity to learn more about business marketing and showed me how crucial our research is to the future of this company.”

The students are part of the RCC Street Team, a part-time employment and learning opportunity in RCC’s Strategic Marketing Department. The Team consists of 10 full-time students interested in furthering their careers in photography, writing, videography, graphic design, web design, or communications. The students work collaboratively on projects, including market research, guerrilla marketing, advertising, analytics, and social media marketing.

“The RCC Street Team is a unique work opportunity that prepares students for employment in a rapidly evolving media landscape while obtaining their degree,” said Dr. Michael A. Baston, President of Rockland Community College. “RCC students are graduating with the real-world experience necessary to be competitive candidates for employment in their chosen careers.”

In this instance, The Street Team worked with Nova North Commercial founder and '02 graduate of RCC, Adam O'Gorman, to do market research, brand naming, and logo design. After a month of working with Adam and the Nova North team, the Street Team created a full brand kit, which included a logo for Nova North to use in launching the new firm.

“The Nova North project means more to me than I can explain. I am very proud of the work we did and I am so grateful for how much we learned about branding and marketing. It is so exciting to see our hard work pay off in the real world,” said Chris Raetz, a 35-year-old full-time Graphic Design major at RCC and part-time Street Team employee who worked on the Nova North logo.

Chris enrolled in Rockland Community College after working for sixteen years, post high school, in the restaurant industry. During his first semester, he took everything he learned in his graphic design classes to help design the Nova North Commercial logo on real estate listing signs all over Rockland County.

“I’ve been out of high school and working for 16 years, and have always dreamed of being an artist,” said Raetz. “I never thought I would get such an amazing opportunity the first semester of my freshmen year."

To introduce their business to the community, Nova North is celebrating a ribbon cutting on

Thursday, February 17 at 2pm at 404 E Route 59 in Nanuet. Attendees will include RCC President Dr. Michael Baston; Nova North Broker/Owner Adam O'Gorman and other Nova North Agents; the RCC Street Team; RCC’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Susan Lyddon; Jessica Stallone, RCC Director of Communications; and Amanda Feeney, Street Team Coordinator.
