Catskill, New York, Aug._ – It’s been a while since CREATE Council On The Arts threw a party. So this legacy non-profit arts foundation is thrilled to announce that it is back with an exhibition and an incredible weekend packed with fun events and celebrations determined to make up for lost time. CREATE has chosen the occasion to further their mission to nurture the greater arts community with “Wildflowers”, an exhibition and fundraiser highlighting the unique artistic brilliance cultivated and thriving in the Hudson Valley today.

The show co-curated by Catskill and culture enthusiast Michele Saunders along with local artist Jerami Goodwin is the centerpiece of a weekend-long extravaganza in which patrons are invited to participate in a generous sampling of what makes our local arts scene so special. In addition to the “Wildflowers” exhibition at the organization’s Gallery showspace, festivities include a cocktail party, dance party and the dedication of a public art mural designed by Goodwin in collaboration with Re-Rack Gym in Catskill.

Explaining the exhibit’s concept, theme and name, new CREATE Executive Director Stella Yoon says the wildflower is a perfect symbol for our regional arts profile. “From the city streets to country streams, they grow and thrive. They continue to be among us and surround us,” Yoon says. “This show is a homage to the ongoing legacy of artists being inspired all along the Hudson River where crosspollination of ideas and travel imprint the cultural and physical landscape.”

The “Wildflowers” collective showcase includes notable local artists such as Marc Swanson, Laetitia Hussain, Rodney Alan Greenblat, Richard Scott, and Jordan Baker alongside emerging artists Enmi Yang, Lou Thorne, and Isaiah Hayden.

CREATE has put together a package of fundraising events coinciding with “Wildflowers”’ opening reception meant to emphasize the vital role that community support for the arts plays in contributing to the scintillating and inspirational quality of life for which the area has become famous.

“Public support for the arts council is an investment that has a profound impact on local residents and the cultural vibrancy of our community, " says Yoon. “By partnering with us, you'll contribute to our community-centered programming, enabling us to provide further support to artists and arts organizations, fostering an environment where creativity thrives and diversity is celebrated. Together, we can ignite innovation, amplify artists' voices, and create opportunities for connection. As the arts council for Greene, Columbia, and Schoharie counties, we bring valuable grant opportunities, essential resources, and a robust support system to nurture our cultural ecosystem.”

“Wildflowers” will be on display from August 25th to October 1st at the Gallery located at 398 Main St. Catskill, NY. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 4-6pm. CREATE’s events benefit will be held on Friday, Aug. 25 and Saturday, Aug. 26 (See below for a complete itinerary). For tickets and pricing, visit: https://create-council-on-the-arts.square.site

CREATE is grateful to Spark of Hudson, the Galvan Foundation, Hawkins NY, Marshall Sterling, and Catskill Collectibles for their generous assistance in making Wildflowers Weekend possible. Special thanks go to La Conca Doro, Left Bank Ciders, Brooklyn Best, and Catskill Chocolate Co. for their generous support, as well as Citiot and Re-Rack Gym.
