Help Bring Joy to a Child This Holiday Season Through Astor’s Adopt-A-Family Program

With the holiday season upon us, Astor Services, a nonprofit organization providing mental/behavioral health and educational services to thousands of children, adolescents, adults and their families throughout the Hudson Valley and the Bronx, is seeking monetary donations for its annual Adopt-A-Family program to help local families in need.

For more than 25 years, the Adopt-A-Family program has paired children enrolled in Astor programs and their families (18 and under) with donors who purchase gifts for them during the holidays.

During the pandemic, safety procedures and modifications were made to the program and the Adopt-A-Family program sought monetary donations to purchase gift cards. Cancelling this program was never an option, especially while families were struggling due to the pandemic. This year, like the last two years, instead of wrapped gifts, gift cards will be sent directly to the families of the children registered.

“A gift card is more than just a gift; it empowers families to choose what is right for them and their children,” said Trish Luchnick, Director of Family Driven Care at Astor Services. “It strengthens a family’s bond and offers hope during the holidays and beyond. Last year, through the generous donations received from individuals, local businesses, and foundations, Astor’s Adopt-A-Family program provided gift cards to more than 1,900 children in the Hudson Valley and the Bronx. Gift cards enable families to experience joy as their children open a gift chosen personally for them.”

Astor hopes that with the community’s generosity, it will be able to provide some holiday joy to families in need. For more information about the program, or to sign up to donate, visit www.astorservices.org/adopt-a-family or contact Dana Valdez at dvaldez@astorservices.org.
