Rockland Community College (RCC) will host a free community event, “Kratom & 7-OH: What Every Community Member Should Know,” on Wednesday, November 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. in The Ellipse at RCC, 145 College Road, Suffern. The event is open to the public.
Jana Wu, LCSW, LADC, CASAC-M, Director of Clinical Integration, will discuss what kratom and 7-OH are, new products and trends, warning signs and health risks, and where individuals and families can find help. Her work and expertise on kratom and 7-OH have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone and iHeartRadio.
The discussion comes as federal health officials have raised concerns about concentrated 7-OH products, which are being sold in gas stations and smoke shops and may be marketed as “natural.” New 7-OH products are significantly more potent and act like an opioid.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned about the potential risks associated with concentrated 7-OH products. In July 2026, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced its intent to temporarily place certain concentrated 7-OH products into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.
The event is presented by Mountainside Treatment Center and the SUNY Rockland Community College CASAC Program.
Admission is free, and community members are encouraged to attend.
