Setting the Bar High: Dutchess Roots, the Town of Poughkeepsie's First Licensed Dispensary, Breaks Ground
Carving out a leading position in the rollout of a new business category opening locally, Dutchess Roots, the Town of Poughkeepsie’s first New York State licensed recreational cannabis dispensary with an approved location, officially broke ground on November 25. Located at 2615 South Road (Route 9) within South Road Crossing, Dutchess Roots will sit behind Buff City Soap and across from the recently announced wellness studio, The Yoga House. The premier cannabis retailer will open its newly constructed, freestanding store spring 2025.
“I congratulate Dutchess Roots on their groundbreaking,” said Town of Poughkeepsie Supervisor, Rebecca Edwards. “As the town works to ensure that cannabis sales are regulated and safe, it’s terrific to see Dutchess Roots leading the way.”
With a three-pronged mission of elevating the retail cannabis industry, educating consumers and integrating itself into the Dutchess County community, Dutchess Roots aims to be the Hudson Valley’s premier recreational cannabis dispensary. Ensuring everyone who walks through its doors feels welcomed, safe and cared for, the 2,700-square-foot space will have a clean, sophisticated feel, offering a simple yet professional atmosphere.
“Communities across New York State have reaped the economic benefits of cannabis retailers,” said Michael Oates, president and CEO of the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation (HVEDC). “These businesses not only create local employment opportunities but generate tax revenue that can be used to support town and county-wide initiatives. I look forward to personally welcoming Dutchess Roots to the Town of Poughkeepsie and seeing its impact on the local and regional economy.”
Whether visitors want to quickly pick up a pre-order, which can be placed through Dutchess Roots’ website, or engage in a thoughtful conversation with an on-site expert, the dispensary will offer a personalized customer service experience tailored to meet the individual needs of every patron.
“Up until this point we had always steered away from legal cannabis in our projects, but after meeting with the team behind Dutchess Roots, and after careful consideration, we decided it was the right fit,” said Kevin Langan, leasing and development partner at Cameron Group, LLC. “We’re confident that Dutchess Roots will operate an upscale, professional dispensary focused on educating its customers and providing a safe, high-quality product to adults ages 21 and older. We know that it will be a great addition to South Road Crossing and look forward to the grand opening this spring.”
