Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland will host the annual Blessing of the Soil Family Event on Saturday, April 30th at 1:00 pm. This year the event will be held in person, and all are welcome to attend. The theme is “From Seed to Supper” as the attendees will learn how Catholic Charities is able to provide so much fresh produce to those in need.

“We are looking forward to welcoming back the public to attend this event in person this year after two years of live streaming due to COVID. We are also excited that youth volunteers from our colleagues at Wonder Girls will be providing some much-needed help,” stated Dan Eudene, Executive Director of Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland (CCCSR). “We’ll also explain how we go from seed to the dinner table so that people can see just how we are able to offer more than boxed and canned food for those we serve,” he added.

CCCSR has hosted this community event since 2011 and four years ago Archbishop Timothy Dolan was on hand to perform the actual blessing. CCCSR created a large garden on the side lawn of their location in Haverstraw where staff and volunteers oversee the growing of fresh vegetables for families and individuals who access the food pantry. It is also home to one of the only greenhouses on the site of a food pantry in the northeast.

Garden sponsorships are available and those who want to make a donation before, during or after the event can do so on the website at www.ccsrockland.org.

Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland, The Warm Heart of Rockland, provides services to people of all ages, from every race and ethnic group from all over the County. The organization’s focus is to provide life necessities, including food, shelter, and other emergency assistance to those in need. An average of 360 households come to the food pantry each month representing over 5,300 children, 7,500 adults and 1,200 seniors in the community. CCCSR also runs the Warming Center for Rockland County during the colder months. More information can be found on the website at www.ccsrockland.org or by calling (845) 942-5791.
