An array of in-person and virtual activities for the Month  

Rockland Community College is celebrating the history and culture of the Latino community. Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15 – October 15. The Hispanic Heritage Month Committee is proud to provide the RCC community with an array of in-person and virtual activities for the month.

Building Inclusion by Understanding the Hispanic Culture, Part II: Food and Music - Friday, September 24, 2:00pm to 3:30pm EDT

Improving diversity and inclusion on college campuses has been an ongoing conversation. How can faculty and staff create an inclusive environment that values the contributions of all students, their families and communities? Join us for a Hispanic Heritage Month virtual panel with a group of Latinx representatives who share ideas on building an inclusive learning environment while discussing gastronomic delights and music genres from different Hispanic countries.

Food is deeply ingrained in the Hispanic culture and brings people together. Join us and enjoy Latin food, drinks, music and games. All students are welcome. Note: Faculty and staff must pay for food.

The Art Club Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month - Friday, October 1, 11:00am to 1:00pm EDT

Join the Art Club and create graphics for Hispanic Heritage Month. Participants will be asked to draw their favorite things about Hispanic culture on windows.

La Cultura Professional: A Virtual Panel with Latinx Professionals - Tuesday, October 5, 12:30pm to 1:30pm EDT

Join us for a Hispanic Heritage Month virtual panel during which a group of LatinX professionals will talk about their career journeys and provide insights about opportunities in their respective fields (Finance, Technology and Higher Education). Engage in a discussion about what inspires each panelist to be successful and what they wish to pass onto the next generation.

Students vs. Staff Kickball Game - Thursday, October 7, 12:00pm to 1:30pm EDT

As part of this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, we would like to introduce a friendly competition. Please join us on Thursday, October 7th from 12 – 1:30 pm at the Fieldhouse for RCC’s Student vs. Staff Kickball Game! Yes, you read that right! Come and bring some RCC pride, we look forward to seeing you. For those interested in playing, please sign up here. There will be a maximum of 12 players per team.

Being Latinx In Academia – Navigation, Support, and Mentoring of Students, Faculty and Staff - Friday, October 15, 3:30pm to 4:00pm EDT (Zoom)

How can colleges support and mentor Latinx students and employees? This webinar will discuss navigating obstacles, creating an empowering environment for students, and diving deeper into the perspective of educators and Student Success teams who help pave the way for reaching students’ educational goals.
