If you have ever thought about creating a children’s book, here’s the conversation you’ll want to hear.

Join author/illustrator Betsy Franco-Feeney and freelance science writer/former television journalist Marie DeNoia Aronsohn as they talk book publishing… both independently and with traditional houses. Expect a lively conversation about Franco-Feeney’s illustrious career as author/illustrator, photographer, graphic designer, art curator and social media specialist.

Franco-Feeney is celebrating the release of her 12th book, Jewels of the Sea… The Hunt for Floating Treasure which she completed even after losing site in one eye.

Betsy is passionate about presenting real science to children in a creative way, referring to her books as ‘edutainment’. Releasing her book on Earth Day brings attention to the fragile state of the natural world.

Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory's  Senior Staff Associate III of Biology and Paleo Environment, Sheean Haley, was the chief science consultant for the book.

“I can’t tell you how many adults are amazed at what they learn,” says Franco-Feeney. “This is definitely one of those picture books that is not just for kids.”

Light refreshments will be served.

Chosen as one of Kirkus Magazine’s 2022 “Great Indie Books Worth Discovering”

“The world’s oceans and freshwater environments teem with beneficial microscopic organisms called diatoms. In Franco-Feeney’s well-conceived work, sure to spark a sense of discovery, grade school–age readers are introduced to these creatures and to the essential roles they play in the aquatic food chain, medicine, biomedical research, industry, and the very health of the planet.”–Kirkus Reviews (aka "the World's toughest book critics")
